“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” - Albert Schweitzer
When was the last time you were consumed by noise? The noise of misinformation, the noise of opinions, the noise of indifference, the noise of walls of misunderstanding erected between humans.
In troubling times, conquering our attention is a brutal and inhumane battle that can make us feel hopeless and impotent. Why? Because it's more challenging to make sense of what we are experiencing. We lack silence and space to identify and describe our feelings and analyze the cascade of information shoveling into our minds.
In these difficult moments is where art comes to our rescue. Why? Because art ground us, pause our accelerated minds, and permit us to feel deeply without losing ourselves.
Art…
makes time stop
rebalances us
challenges our perception
increases our humanity
Art is in everything we can contemplate: in the story of a mother, in the sounds of a street, in the conversation of two strangers, in our recollections of joyous and most heartbreaking times. Art is alive when people live the entire width of the human experience and reconnect with themselves and with each other.
Art helps us find the light that conquers the dark, the light in others.
Pause the day and let you feel with the next beautiful video.
What object of mine reminds me of the light in others? For me, is the photograph of my mother and my aunt reclining in an automobile. Their eyes, smile, and postures say everything to me.
With love, Yani.
